Live cooking, box naps, and the oldest kid - 4 places I found joy in the chaos this week

Live cooking, box naps, and the oldest kid - 4 places I found joy in the chaos this week

Um, is it really February? Yup, yup it is. That means it's almost birthday season again around these parts. Mercedes birthday is in less than two weeks so she's been busy changing her mind about food and dessert every time I ask her about it. I think she's finally settled on a real menu for her actual day and party but cake design is still a constant struggle. She comes up with an idea, we spend time on Pinterest getting a visual, then the next day it's a new idea. It was way easier when I could suggest something and she would agree. Darn these kids having opinion of their own ;)

Hair cuts, Mr. Potatohead Glasses, and Card Games - 6 places I found joy in the chaos this week

With only a month left of summer break I needed to make sure we were taking advantage of our time. I took the kids to the library across town with the better kids area and on a walk to the park. We also made a trip to the store so we could drop off a care package to a friend having a rough day and had a couple extra friends come over and hang out with us. So many good moments this week!

Morning work, Duplo towers, and donut day - 7 things that brought me joy this week

Morning work, Duplo towers, and donut day - 7 things that brought me joy this week

It was my first full week implementing the schedule I came up with from the Home Management How-To course and I'm happy to report it is still working well for us. I knew exactly what I needed to accomplish each day which meant everything seemed to go a little smoother. The little kids are getting in on the routine by helping me with tasks during the day and this week then even fought over who got to vacuum. Of course then I discovered our broken vacuum so no one got to but that's beside the point - they want to help!

My Week's Joy - 5/9-5/15

My Week's Joy - 5/9-5/15

Inspired by one of my favorite blogs I thought it would be a great idea to look back each week at those things that brought me the most joy. This is far too fitting for my blog to ignore the idea so I look forward to posting these each week!

Do you want to know my favorite part about starting this blog and making a point of choosing to see joy in my normal, everyday life? I'm seeing it everywhere now and it's so hard to not want to share CONSTANTLY about the joy around me.

This was a bit of a hard week. I found myself grumpy and just constantly in a state of downward thinking. Both Micah and I got diagnosed with strep throat and Anders got the first ever ear infection of our parenting careers. Neither of us had energy for anything so the dishes piled up, the counters were incredibly sticky, and the floors were gross to walk on. The spare bed in the basement was piled with about three or four loads of laundry and I was behind in my writing. I didn't work out at all and because of the strep I was having serious issues drinking any water, let alone the gallon I try to get in each day. My Monthly Goals for May felt like total failures. But God doesn't let things like that stop Him from pouring his blessings on us. The key is choosing an attitude that allows us to see the good around us. We have to choose joy, choose happy, and choose gratitude. I'm glad I was able to turn my grumpy attitude around and find good despite the illnesses and crazy chaos last week.
