Spring colds, dandelions, and donuts - a look at the joy & chaos of our week

Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy, but also keep it real with the chaos. The key is seeing that despite the chaos, there is still so much good! Sometimes it's awesome activities and other times it's a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.

Why must colds happen when it's least convenient? Last Sunday, when we were trying to pack up our van to head home from my parents' house, I came down with a nasty cold. I could barely stay awake, my throat was so scratchy I hardly had a voice, and my head was pounding. I ended up taking a few naps before ten am!

And speaking of packing up our van, we also discovered we needed to put new brakes on the van before hitting the road - thank goodness for emergency savings accounts! We were able to pay for the work without any credit and still have plenty in our savings to feel safe for future mishaps.

I'm also thankful the brake issue and the cold hit when we were at my parents house since it meant we had help keeping the kids occupied while Micah took care of the van and I took care of myself. And several hours after we planned on leaving we finally hit the road and made it home safe!

But seriously... this bug I caught was and is terrible. I guess the good thing was all the reading I got done? I didn't want to spend much time away from the couch and the kids loved getting more cuddles. I think I finished four or five books last week!

I did manage to motivate enough to have a short kitchen day. I made kolaches for my Mother's Day breakfast and stuck them in the freezer so Micah would only need to heat them up.

And speaking of Micah...

He went to Phoenix for the week for work. I'm so thankful for technology that allows us to talk to him each day! We would call using Google Hangouts as we got ready for bed and he'd pray for the kids before they all went to their own rooms.

It's always a bummer when he needs to travel for work but we do what we need. We had a few tearful moments from the kids and I only had one instance - but that was because I was reading an incredibly sad moment in a book and I was instantly putting myself in the characters shoes and couldn't handle it without him there as a sounding board! Yes, I cry about fake people. That's how you know a book is good!

We did what could to bring fun to the house while Micah was gone. Batman even showed up!

I made myself a funfetti mug cake one night as a treat while reading. I think I'll need to post the recipe soon for this one!

And the little three picked LOADS of dandelions while waiting for the big boys to get out of school.

By Friday we were all ready for Micah to come home but he wouldn't be getting in until Saturday so we passed the time by picking up some half priced donuts at our favorite place. We made sure to grab a couple extra as a treat for Micah when he returned.

Saturday seemed to crawl by until it was finally time to head to the airport! Because Micah needed to be at the Phoenix airport by 4am (his time) we knew he'd be exhausted once he finally arrived back home and stopped moving. We were right! I sent the kids outside to play so he could catch up on a little bit of sleep while I knocked out another book ;)

Where did you find joy in the chaos this week? What was your favorite part of the week?
