Millenium Falcon, library visit, and women's retreat - 5 places I found joy in the chaos this week

Millenium Falcon, library visit, and women's retreat - 5 places I found joy in the chaos this week

Every week I like to take a moment to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it's a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.

This week finished up with one of my favorite events ever but before we get to that we need to get through the rest of the week. The three little kids and I ventured up to Micah's work to eat lunch with him on Thursday which was a pretty big treat. He works on the opposite side of the city which can mean a 20ish minute drive depending on traffic and lights. Thankfully the kids were awesome both during the errands we ran before and while eating lunch.

We also had some crazy weather this week with daily highs ranging from the 60s to the 80s and a fairly severe thunderstorm one day. I think the weather is supposed to settle down this week and get back to more typical fall numbers, but I guess we'll see!

1. Fashionista

Mercedes lives in her own world when it comes to fashion. I don't pick out her clothes as she is far too independent for me to even offer suggestions so on days when she comes up in a shirt and tights means a bit of a battle between mom and daughter on what is acceptable to wear out of the house. Thankfully after a while she conceded and put on a pair of shorts over her tights. I'll never understand her sense of style but I appreciate that she is confident in her choices.

2. Millenium Falcon

Micah and I finally finished building the Millenium Falcon we started a month or so ago. It was a fun build and we both teased each other when we'd screw up a step because we weren't paying attention. Now we are working on clearing off a space in our bedroom for it to be displayed.

3. Teddy's chair

Bags of Duplo were dumped on the floor this week for the kids to get creative. Jamison made the AllSpark from Transformers and Parker made this chair for his favorite bear, Teddy. I love seeing their creativity and different personalities come out in what they choose to build.

4. Library visit

We needed new books for the next few weeks of our homeschool lessons so I rounded up the little three and we hit up the library. I found several books for our next three letters and the kids got some puzzle practice in. I'm so thankful for multiple libraries in our area that offer quality kid areas for them to play.

5. Women's retreat

This is why I'm delayed in getting this post up. I spent the weekend at one of my favorite places - a women's retreat at this gorgeous lakeside camp. This camp offers various retreats all throughout the year as well as several different kids camps during the summer. I started attending after Micah and I got married and while I've missed a few over the years due to being WAY too pregnant or a baby being too little for me to leave I try to make it every year I'm able.

This year's theme was "Beauty in the Brokenness" and we focused on how God uses those broken parts of our life to make new things grow. The speaker used seeds to illustrate the point - a seed must die and fall to the ground and then be buried in dirt in order for new life to spring forth. Wow! We were all invited to write down our brokenness on pieces of paper then take turns nailing those broken pieces to the cross at the front of the chapel. It was incredibly powerful to hear those hammer strikes and pray over all the women at the end of the retreat.

Where did you find joy in the chaos this weekend? What was your favorite part of the week?
