A peek at our weekly grocery shopping

Each week I plan on sharing a picture of our cart at each store along with a breakdown on what we bought and what we paid. Thankfully we have zero dietary restrictions or allergies which helps us keep our budget on the low side. We try to stick between $80-90 each week for our family of seven. A lot of times what is on the menu doesn't directly correlate to what we buy because I like to plan our meals from what we have on hand currently and use our budget to stock up on good buys plus produce and dairy products.

The boys are off to their grandparent's house again this week so I didn't buy quite as much produce as usual. We are also still working on restocking some staples around here. It's a little disheartening when they all run out at the same time because it makes it really difficult to balance the cost of restocking staples along with buying what is needed for the week. Thankfully having two less mouths to feed this week means we could get a little less of other items because a smaller amount will last for the younger kids.

Menu Plan

I love menu planning and seeing other's dinner plans! I'm weird like that ;) As I've shared before, being in the kitchen is my happy place so I love finding meals that are new but I also never forget our favorites! These will link to the author's original recipe unless it's my own recipe/creation that I don't have a link for... yet.

If you need some inspiration for how to create menu plans you can read here where I go into detail about how I make a plan for our food week and here to read how I create our grocery list.

I don't make specific plans for breakfast and lunch but these are the basics I rotate between while throwing in a few other things for special days or weeks when I have the right ingredients.

Breakfasts: Pancakes, Coffee Cake, Egg Sandwiches, Sausage Balls, Eggs (various ways), English MuffinsBanana BreadBiscuits and Gravy, and various types of muffins.

Lunches: Leftovers, PB&J, Meat and Cheese Wraps, Cheese Quesadillas, and Mac 'n' Cheese.

Dinners, however, are always planned for since they tend to take the most ingredients and prep time.

Here's what's on our menu this week:

Sunday: Out to Eat - We are meeting up with Micah's parents and sister's family to pass off the big boys for the week. We will be driving about 1.5 hours away after church to meet them and by the time we are heading home we will need to stop and grab a bite.

Monday: Lo MeinI'm excited to make another batch of homemade noodles for this! I'll roll these out a little thinner than my first try but they were so delicious that I can't wait to do it again.

Tuesday: Pizzaquitos - When I saw a list of the new foods for the Minnesota State Fair I was intrigued by the Pizzarito - a burrito with pizza filling. Micah thought it would be too much in one bite so he suggested something smaller and my mind immediately went to taquitos. Of course there are already recipes for them on other blogs but what isn't there a recipe or method for there these days!

Wednesday: Burrito BowlsSome of the kids aren't caring about having tortillas lately, especially the younger kids. Rather than wasting tortillas that get tossed to the side we will fill our bowls with burrito fixings. I've got carnitas left in the freezer plus beans, rice, corn, salsa, sour cream, and cheese.

Thursday: Leftovers

Friday:  Homemade Pizza and Movie Night - pizza crust recipe here and pizza sauce recipe here.

Saturday: Sheet Pan Shrimp BoilThe boys are coming home tonight and I thought it would be fun to try a new meal! We love shrimp but don't make the splurge very often. I'm super stoked about trying this easy meal.
