A peek at our weekly grocery shopping
Each week I plan on sharing a picture of our cart at each store along with a breakdown on what we bought and what we paid. Thankfully we have zero dietary restrictions or allergies which helps us keep our budget on the low side. We try to stick between $80-90 each week for our family of seven. A lot of times what is on the menu doesn't directly correlate to what we buy because I like to plan our meals from what we have on hand currently and use our budget to stock up on good buys plus produce and dairy products.
Is it really the last full week of July?! I've got to start planning my August freezer cooking time so I can be ready for the school year. Ugh. Why does it always fly by so fast? I'm going to have a third and second grader this year. It's also Mercedes last year at home before starting school. Tears! Gah, I've got to pull myself together because it's still so far off, even if it's creeping closer every moment. Focus, Katie! Get back to the food!
I was a little concerned about our budget this week because we ran out of several things at once. Our BBQ sauce and ranch are both depleted and these took a good chunk out of our funds. Thankfully there were good deals on other items we needed and I planned the menu based on what we could get at a good price. We are also getting low on butter but I'll have to work that into next week's budget because what is a house without a good supply of butter!
Grapes 2.63lb @ 1.48/lb = $3.89
Apples 2 @ 3.00 = $6.00
4pk Bell Peppers $3.00
8lb bag Potatoes $3.00
Frozen Juice $0.98
- store coupon for free item = $0
*submitted receipt to ibotta for any item rebate (-$0.25)
Total: $7.11 after rebates
Peanut Butter $9.99
- 2.50 savings = $7.49
- 3.00 savings = $6.59
Cream Cheese $6.59
- 2.25 savings = $7.74
Sour Cream $3.99
BBQ Sauce $5.79
Grocery Total: $78.63 after rebates

I love menu planning and seeing other's dinner plans! I'm weird like that ;) As I've shared before, being in the kitchen is my happy place so I love finding meals that are new but I also never forget our favorites! These will link to the author's original recipe unless it's my own recipe/creation that I don't have a link for... yet.
If you need some inspiration for how to create menu plans you can read here where I go into detail about how I make a plan for our food week and here to read how I create our grocery list.
I don't make specific plans for breakfast and lunch but these are the basics I rotate between while throwing in a few other things for special days or weeks when I have the right ingredients.
Lunches: Leftovers, PB&J, Meat and Cheese Wraps, Cheese Quesadillas, and Mac 'n' Cheese.
Dinners, however, are always planned for since they tend to take the most ingredients and prep time.
Here's what's on our menu this week:
Sunday: Avocado Burgers - I'm craving more burgers before grilling season disappears and we still have several avocados to use up from last week. I won't be making the pineapple relish but I'll definitely throw together our favorite spicy mayo to serve with these.
Monday: Fajitas - Colored bell peppers simply scream fajitas to me, anyone else?
Wednesday: Creamy Chicken Taquitos - We haven't had this version of taquitos in so long! I grabbed the big box of cream cheese at Costco specifically for this recipe and I'm sooo ready.
Saturday: Barbecue Turkey Cheddar Sliders - I was browsing Pinterest for other uses of turkey lunch meat and found these. They look AMAZING and I can't wait to try them. It says the topping tastes like BBQ chips. Um, say what? Get in my belly, please!
