A look at our weekly grocery shopping
Each week I plan on sharing a picture of our cart at each store along with a breakdown on what we bought and what we paid. Thankfully we have zero dietary restrictions or allergies which helps us keep our budget on the low side. We try to stick between $80-90 each week for our family of seven. A lot of times what is on the menu doesn't directly correlate to what we buy because I like to plan our meals from what we have on hand currently and use our budget to stock up on good buys plus produce and dairy products.
It was a week of letdowns while shopping. One grocery store was supposed to have watermelons for $2.99 each and while they did technically have seedless watermelons for that price, they were no bigger than the "personal watermelons" so we passed. Super bummed about that! Then at Sam's, two of our favorite items were no longer available! Apparently they've stopped carrying extra sharp cheddar cheese and off brand tortilla chips. In addition to that bummer they also RAISED the price of the sharp cheddar to the price the extra sharp was last week. Um, what? And Costco doesn't carry extra sharp either so we are pretty bummed.
Not a huge week for fresh produce as prices weren't amazing (other than the apples!) so we stuck to a few basics and will be eating mostly the few types of frozen veggies we have left. I'll have to do a stock up of some of those asap. I am pretty excited to have salad again for lunches though.

I love menu planning and seeing other's dinner plans! I'm weird like that ;) As I've shared before, being in the kitchen is my happy place so I love finding meals that are new but I also never forget our favorites! These will link to the author's original recipe unless it's my own recipe/creation that I don't have a link for... yet.
If you need some inspiration for how to create menu plans you can read here where I go into detail about how I make a plan for our food week and here to read how I create our grocery list.
I don't make specific plans for breakfast and lunch but these are the basics I rotate between while throwing in a few other things for special days or weeks when I have the right ingredients.
Lunches: Leftovers, PB&J, Meat and Cheese Wraps, Cheese Quesadillas, and Mac 'n' Cheese.
Dinners, however, are always planned for since they tend to take the most ingredients and prep time.
Here's what's on our menu this week:
Sunday: Hot Ham & Cheese Party Rolls - These are very similar to the Brown Sugar Ham Rolls that we make all the time but they look like sweet rolls so it's super fun, right?
Monday: BBQ Pork Pretzel Bombs - The linked recipe is for bacon & cheese but I'll be substituting saucy pulled pork and cheese. Yum! They can be a little tedious to put together but get a rhythm down and it happens fairly quickly.
Tuesday: Stroganoff - When we made kabobs a month or so ago we had A LOT of beef left so we browned and froze it for later. Later is now! Plus I love having a slow cooker meal on kitchen day.
Wednesday: Fajita Quesadillas - I was pondering the menu this week and could not come up with another easy weekday meal. At first I thought tacos but we just had those. And regular quesadillas weren't quite right. Marinate the meat in fajita seasoning and cook up some veggies to put inside and now I can't wait for this meal. Yum! This also reminds me that I really need to get the fajita marinade I use posted!
Saturday: Wraps - With the weather heating up it's nice to have a few options to pull out when I don't want to cook. Two varieties of wraps (basically one for us and one for kids) but choices will be Spicy Tuna Wraps and Club Wraps for the kids.
What's on your menu this week? What are your favorite summer meals?
