7th Birthday, school visits, and silly hats - six places I found joy in the chaos this week
Every week I like to take a minute to showcase the moments that brought me the most joy. Sometimes they are awesome activities and other times it's a sweet moment between the kids. There are always moments that can fill us with joy if we choose to see them with a thankful heart.
It felt great to be back to a mostly normal schedule this week. I got back on track with my daily schedule, started working out again, and overall got back to real life. But we had a few other activities during the week that got thrown in as well but they all provided more chances to see how good our God is!
1. Jamison's 7th Birthday
Our second born turned 7 last Sunday! He is so sweet and kind. He has a love of art and video games and I'm pretty positive his love language is quality time. He's an amazing reader and has the neatest kid handwriting I've ever seen. He sleeps with his Bible and asks us questions about what he's reading. I can't wait to see what God has in store for this amazing boy.
2. Birthday fun
I love keeping birthdays all about the person. We let them choose how their day will look as much as we can. Jamison chose caramel rolls for breakfast and BBQ chicken pizza for dinner. For his birthday dessert, after about thirty different decisions, he finally decided on vanilla cupcakes with peanut butter frosting, plus chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and mini mallow bits for toppings. All the kids took time to decorate their cupcakes exactly right before diving in to eat. It was fun and creative, just like Jamison!
3. Clean room
Now that we are done with vacations and everyone is healthy I'm focusing on getting back on track with our daily home management schedule. Wednesday is cleaning day and I'm rotating weeks for doing a deeper clean of each bedroom. The three bigger kids "clean" their rooms each Saturday but since they are kids it's not necessarily the best job. It's mostly picking up their toys and clothes rather than really cleaning. This week it was time for the twin's room. I wish I had a before picture because there were Duplo and Mr. Potato Heads everywhere! The kids helped me pick up all the toys, I put laundry away, and then we vacuumed. It looks so nice and now I don't risk injury when I go in to check on them!
4. Lunch with Jamison
Jamison got to celebrate his birthday at school on Wednesday so we surprised him by meeting him in the lunchroom. This picture might not show it but he was pretty darn excited. Packing up lunches and hauling the three littler kids to school right about nap time might not be the most convenient thing ever but the joy it brings to the kid's face is worth every moment of difficulty or inconvenience for me.
5. Poet's Luncheon
Parker's class has been focusing on poetry for the last month or so and to celebrate what they've learned the class hosted a "poet's luncheon" for the parents. We were invited to bring lunch and listen to the students read their original work. We were blown away with Parker's poems! We thought that his teacher's had helped him think of words but he said he thought of them all by himself. I'm hoping once he brings the written poems home I can share them.
6. Silly hats
Ah Target, you never fail to entertain my children. They discovered the clearance St. Patrick's day hats and insisted on trying them on. I love when simple things bring smiles.
