Three Word Wednesday: Seeing the Stars

I'm linking this up over at 152 Insights to My Soul.

From Kristin: #ThreeWordWednesday is simple, really. I know we're all busy with life and kids and jobs and parents and friends and church and whatever else it is that occupies our time. Some weeks I'm not sure what my post will be about, but knowing people will show up here on Wednesdays is good motivation to write something. #ThreeWordWednesday is a chance to pause and hear God. Sum up what you're hearing in three words. Those three words are enough. But stories are good too.

Seeing the Stars

Easter weekend was spent at my in-laws property which is basically in the middle of nowhere. While I know I could never live in the country I absolutely love getting to visit for the retreat aspect of their land. It's surrounded by trees and farm land and minimal other homes. One of my favorite parts of visiting is going out at night and gazing up at the sky.

Being a city girl my whole life there have always been so many lights and other distractions that can get in the way of really seeing all the stars in the sky. But in the country? I never fail to feel amazed over the sheer number of stars in the sky. I tried snapping a picture but using a cell phone camera in the dark? Nope.

My relationship with God can be like seeing the stars. @@Distractions can get in the way and cause me to miss seeing just how great He is.@@ I need to step away from the shiny lights and find a place that allows me to take Him in. Turn off the TV, shut down Facebook or Pinterest, and focus on Him.

I used to try and multi-task my Bible reading with feeding babies, brushing teeth, getting ready for bed, whatever. But I realized it never had my full attention because I was also talking to kids, thinking about everything that happened that day, or listening to others. Now that I sit at the table or on the couch with coffee and make my time with God a sole activity I'm already seeing growth in the relationship and I'm hearing His voice more clearly. It's not getting muddled with all the other "stuff" going on.

@@Don't let the things of the world distract you from seeing Christ.@@

I want to inspire you to choose joy during the highs and during the lows. I want you to love the chaos but also find a way to manage it so you don't lose your beautiful mind in the process.
