Five Minute Friday: Surprise!
I'm linking this up over at Kate Motaung's for Five Minute Friday. Every week a one-word writing prompt is given and writers have five minutes to share.
This is meant to be a free write, which means: no editing, no over-thinking, no worrying about perfect grammar or punctuation.
I love surprising my kids. I love the looks of pure joy and shock when I can really surprise them with something fun and exciting.
On Tuesday this week Dairy Queen was offering free small ice cream cones to every customer. What a great opportunity to surprise my kids! I picked my big kids up from school even though it was technically a nice enough day to walk. They were bummed I was in the car but we headed out. And then I missed the first turn.
"Mom, why are you going this way?"
"Oops. I guess I missed the turn!"
"You can take the next one."
"Oops, guess I missed that one too!"
"Where are we going?"
"You are doing this on purpose!"
I'm in the driver seat almost giggling because they are so sure I've lost my mind or they know that we are going for donuts or something else crazy fun. Okay, so they kind of know my M.O. but it's still fun to try and surprise them.
We pulled in to the DQ parking lot and the two big boys cheered. The girl had no idea what was going on since she had never been there and the babies were clueless because they are only seventeen months, haha!
They were ecstatic upon receiving their cones and declared it a fantastic treat and surprise. They behaved wonderfully and it was well worth the effort of bringing five kids out across town.
