Promises for the Hungry Heart - Week 45 {Update}

Welcome back! If you are just joining us, we are using the YouVersion Bible App to follow a devotional together. Read THIS POST to get all the information you need to join in and then you can read THIS MORNING'S POST to see the promises we are focusing on this week.

Can you believe that we are in the last four weeks of this devotional? I've got plans coming together for after this is over but I'm incredibly grateful that I found this wonderful devotional that has pushed me to learn about God's promises and try to examine what they mean in our lives.

The promise I chose this week is uplifting and encouraging - something we need frequently!

My power is granting you all you need to cope. 2 Peter 1:2-3

2 Peter 1:2-3, MSG
Grace and peace to you many times over as you deepen in your experience with God and Jesus, our Master.

Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God.
— 2 Peter 1:2-3, MSG

We all want to live a life pleasing to God. We want to be obedient and faithful but sometimes we don't know what to do or where to start! The Bible is not a small book. If you are a newer believer it can be incredibly intimidating to find a place to start, let alone understand it all!

And then in this job as a parent - we are on the front lines for teaching God's word, truth, and ways to our children. How can we begin to pass on these things to our kids if we barely grasp it all ourselves?

Breathe, sweet mama! Look at the words in this promise. Simply by being invited to know God through Jesus we have everything we need to please God. The entire truth of God and His Son, Jesus, are revealed in the scriptures and as you spend time in them, no matter what book or chapter, you will begin to deepen your knowledge of them.

There are millions of resources available to help you in your growth as a follower of Christ but don't feel like you need to rush out and buy or download any of them. Sure, extra insight is great (I love reading other's words and stories of faith) but ultimately the Bible is the only writing that is God breathed and the only book you NEED to build your relationship with Christ.

So not only do you already possess what you need to live a life pleasing to God simply by accepting Christ as your savior, you will also receive grace and peace "many times over" as you learn more about God. I don't know about you but I can always use some extra grace and peace in my life! Grace to cover over yet another "failure" as a mom. Grace in finances. Grace in the workplace. Grace upon grace.

And peace? Obviously the peace here is not talking about peace that comes when all the kids are in bed and there is actual silence in the house. No, not that peace. But peace that transcends all understanding. Peace over a medical diagnosis. Peace over a job change. Peace through loss. Peace upon peace.

The little seeds you are planting by faithfully spending time talking to God, reading His word (even if it's only a verse a day!), and getting to know Him will all help you grow into a more mature believer. Keep going. His word is a stream of living water. He will give you all that you need all because you believe in Him.

Gracious God, what a wonderful gift you have given us! Not only did you send your Son to take our place but you've given us everything we need to live a life pleasing to you by accepting this gift. There is nothing we can do to earn this gift or repay you for it so I pray that we would live a life that honors you. Help us to use the tools you've handed to us, especially your Word, to get to know you deeper. Ignite in us a desire to further this relationship and open our eyes and hearts to the grace and peace you grant us as we get to know you more. In Jesus name, Amen.

What steps are you taking to deepen your relationship with God? Have you seen God's grace and peace increase in your life as you've gotten to know God better?
